Mike Aho interview!

mike is a very talented artist outta austin texas. he's been holdin it down in the volcom art department for while and been holdin down even harder in the volcom skatepark lately, he's also got a stinging band on the go called "sounder"(just realeased an album, go get it).. since i've moved to southern california i've been to a coupla his art shows and have been a fan for awhile. i was lucky enough to get him to agree to sharing a coupla pieces and answer a few questions for me.

CL- allright mike, the american public wants to know, whats your perfect sunday?

MA- Probably just hanging out with my daughter Plum, skating a little and drinking a couple bottles of cheap red table wine when the nightime swoops in.

CL- being an orange county transplant such as myself i was curious, what is your favorite and least favorite thing about living in this hell hole?

MA- Where to begin? I don't know. Coming from Austin was hard because it's such diverse place with a lot of culture, a great music scene and a lot of artists who actually care about each other. The OC is broken off from the rest of the world in all it's bright and shinny plastic, naïve glory and the rest of the world simply doesn't care.

CL- whose art do you like staring at these days?

MA- Mr. bratrud, Fudge, Mel Kadel, Sieben, James Finger, Andrew Schoultz, Kyle Field, maya hayuk.

CL- if somebody wanted to fund a "sounder-fest" super tour what five bands would you wanna bring along?

MA- Well, first off I'd like to be able to have some friends play in the band with me and steve--they would be Sam De La Rosa and Dave Bryant. And we'd be opening for The Little Wings, Grizzly Bear, Electralane, Hello Lovers and You're Pretty.

CL- if you could kill 5 people without getting caught, who would you cap off?

MA- The Nigerian dood that scammed me out of $5000 when I sold my moog over the internet 5 years ago. I'd kill him and his 3 friends. I'd save the last one for a guy I saw in the news the other day that put his girlfriends 2year old daughter in the dryer because she was throwing a fit.

CL- and the final brain busting super question!...if you were stuck on a desert island and could only have five bottles of beer with you, what five brands would you bring?

MA- Pabst, wolavers, Fat Tire, Guinness and Tecate. Did I get it right?

broken dreams

so my favorite camera kinda broke on me the other day, it seemed like a simple enough problem, the shutter cycle would kinda just give out half way through and wouldnt finsish unless you smacked it abit. so i decided to take matters into my own hands and handle the problem.

things got ugly fast when a couple of the screw fell under the couch and then i lost one of the gears somehow? i made a half hearted attempt at putting it back together but i knew deep down that the dream was over.
